Seminal Fluid and It's Analysis
Before we move into the detailed seminal fluid analysis it is important for us to understand the terms semen and seminal fluid. There is no difference between the two terns. In fact semen is a fluid that is generated by the gonads present in the male reproductive system and seminal fluid is another name associated with it which means the same.
Sperms ejaculated from the male reproductive system into the female reproductive system during an intercourse are meant to fertilize the eggs generated at the female end. If despite of regular intercourse for more than a year or so in the absence of contraceptives the pregnancy state is voided then the term infertility comes into existence.
There can be two reasons behind this either the compatibility of the opposite sex creatures or the poor quality and quantity of the male sperm or seminal fluid. In the latter case we need to undergo the analysis of seminal fluid that also to verify that which factor is held responsible behind this. There might be a situation when no decision is concluded from this analysis and in such a situation some other hormonal factors and health parameters are analysed.
The Procedure
The procedure for seminal fluid analysis is very simple and involves masturbation activity. The output that is ejaculated seminal fluid is collected in a bowl shaped sample tube and taken for analysis. The must condition associated with this analysis is the inspection of the seminal fluid within 1hour of its ejaculation otherwise the reports are considered to be inadequate. This inspection goes on in parts. After every 20-25 days a sample of semen of the suspect is collected and inspected. The final conclusion is drawn after a 3 months regular observation.
As per the norms and normal conditions the volume of ejaculated seminal fluid must range between 2ml-6ml (in which seminal vesicles, prostate and vasa contribute 65%, 30-35%, 5% respectively). If this much volume is not ejaculated then it is very clear that quantity of seminal fluid ejaculated is less hence it is suspected to be one of the reasons behind the infertility coming into view.
pH range and concentration of seminal fluid is an important factor in determining the quality of the sperm ejaculated. For normal stances it must range between a pH range of 7.2-8.0 otherwise if it is less than 7.2 then the ejaculation is termed as acidic ejaculation or if it is greater than 8.0 then ejaculation is termed as alkaline. Both of them are threats to fertility. If the pH range is found to be normal then concentration is checked and quality of sperm is concluded.
Further response of hormones, white blood cells, red blood cells, urinal value and many similar factors are analysed before we proceed to the completion of seminal fluid analysis. Once the problem has been diagnosed then relative treatment is employed so that infertility can be replaced by an increased fertility.
